The new Dell XPS15 and XPS17 have just leaked and the MacBook Pro is in trouble

The new Dell XPS 15 and Dell XPS 17 have been leaked before, and now Dell itself has leaked specs for these two MacBook Pro rivals. And they appear to be very strong Apple alternatives.

Dell France first published product listings for the Dell XPS 15 9500 and Dell XPS 17 9700. However, the site has since withdrawn the listings. Fortunately, our sister site Laptop Mag, with the help of Notebookcheck and Reddit users, obtained all the spec information.

Here's what we know so far about the Dell XPS 15 2020 and Dell XPS 17 2020, and how they compare to the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The Dell XPS 15 9500 seems to be getting the Dell XPS 13 2020 treatment, with a more compact design and an edge-to-edge display; the MacBook Pro 16" also has slimmer bezels, but not a full screen like this one No doubt.

How compact is the Dell XPS 15 2020, which reportedly weighs just 4 pounds and measures 13.6 x 9.1 x 0.7 inches? The previous XPS 15 weighed 5 pounds and was 14.1 x 9.3 x 0.7 inches.

By comparison, the MacBook Pro 16" weighs 4.3 pounds and measures 14.1 x 9.7 x 0.64 inches. In other words, the Dell XPS 15 beats it in weight (not surprising given its smaller screen), but it is not as thin as the MacBook Pro.

Another selling point of the 16-inch MacBook Pro is its speakers. In fact, Apple's laptop offers the best sound we've ever heard on a laptop. And Dell counters with two top-facing speakers on either side of the keyboard.

In terms of specs, there are two leaked CPUs, the Core i7-10875H and Core i9-10885H. However, the graphics are not RTX grade and the only GPU listed so far is Nvida's GeForce GTX 1650Ti. It also has up to 64 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of SSD storage.

The Dell XPS 17 2020 appears to be a true MacBook Pro 16-inch competitor, with the same CPU as the Dell XPS 15. That means you get the Core i7-10875H and Core i9-10885H CPUs. More importantly, the GPU maxes out at an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060.

The RTX 2060 chip in the Dell XPS 17 should beat the AMD Radeon Pro 5500M in the 16-inch MacBook Pro, at least when it comes to gaming; Nvidia's GPU supports ray tracing, which is a feature that is not available on the Dell XPS 17. Apple's system is equipped with an AMD Radeon Pro 5300M first.

Other specs for the XPS 17 2020 include a choice between a 1080p non-touch display and a 4K touchscreen. We would opt for the non-touch screen for longer battery life.

The XPS 17 2020 has one more feature that the MacBook Pro 16-inch and XPS 15 do not. That is, you should be able to log in just by staring at the XPS 17, which is easier than using the Touch ID button on the MacBook Pro. Apple has not yet included Face ID on its laptops.

As you might imagine, this 17-inch beast is larger and heavier than the 16-inch MacBook Pro. It measures 14.7 x 9.8 x 0.8 inches and weighs 5.5 pounds. In other words, it is 1.2 pounds heavier than Apple's machine.

Both the 2020 Dell XPS 15 and Dell XPS 17 are likely to be formidable one-two punches against the MacBook Pro 16-inch: the Dell XPS 15 offers more power in a sleeker design, while the Dell XPS 17 sacrifices portability, It could beat the MacBook Pro when it comes to graphics performance.

We will test both laptops again when they are officially announced.
