Zoom just got one of its best features yet: How to Use It

Zoom's latest feature is going to give the video conferencing service a step ahead of some of the other best video chat apps that are fighting for the loyalty of all those who work from home.

Otter.ai, a real-time chat transcription service, now allows Zoom call participants to view live text logs of conversations. This integration will allow users to review and search past meeting transcripts at any time, which may be useful for important work meetings.

Call participants can co-edit scripts, highlight text, and tag speakers in the log during conversations; Otter's AI smarts also seem to help distinguish who is speaking based on assigned tags.

Otter's transcription tool also lends itself well to Zoom's presentation mode. When enabled, the audience can see live captioning while the presenter is lecturing or demonstrating.

Real-time transcription is the latest measure to maintain Zoom's dominance; Google Meet recently announced new features such as gallery layouts and easy integration with Gmail, and Skype announced Meet Now announced video calling, which requires no sign-up or app installation.

To be clear, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet also have captioning and transcription capabilities. But the Otter integration should especially benefit the surge of Zoom users who have transitioned to telecommuting in recent weeks.
