Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 will beat iPad Pro with this important feature

Samsung's Galaxy Tab S7 will be available in a 5G version not found on the latest iPad Pro. It will also once again come with the S Pen, which Apple charges extra for, making Samsung's new tablet an attractive premium tablet package.

GalaxyClub, a Dutch website dedicated to Samsung (via TechRadar), reports that details about the upcoming Samsung tablet, including size, accessories, and connectivity features, are now known.

The basic details are that the Galaxy Tab S7, the successor to the Galaxy Tab S6, will come in two sizes, 11" and 12.4", and will be named Tab S7 and Tab S7 Plus. These may not be the final names, but GalaxyClub believes that Samsung will proceed as usual with the numbering system for the Tab series, rather than skip ahead to match the Galaxy S20 and the expected Galaxy Note 20.

All models will come with an S-Pen stylus. This is similar to all Galaxy Tab S series tablets since the S3, and contrasts with none of Apple's iPads.

The biggest news is that there will likely be a 5G version of the Galaxy Tab S7 in addition to the Wi-Fi and 4G versions. This will allow for super-fast communication on the go with Samsung's tablet without having to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot.

This is not strictly new for this tablet series; there was also a 5G version of the Tab S6, but that was only available in Korea. However, GalaxyClub claims that the 5G Tab S7 will be available in Europe as well. There is no news on a U.S. release, but we expect Samsung to offer a wider range.

5G support is a rare feature in tablets for the time being. Huawei's MatePad Pro also offers optional 5G connectivity, but due to a dispute between Huawei and the U.S. government, it will be difficult to get it in the U.S.

Samsung has a history of beating Apple to the punch with certain tablet features. Last year's Galaxy Tab S6 came with a keyboard accessory that included a trackpad, nearly a year before Apple's Magic Keyboard attachment for the 2020 iPad Pro. Tablet users seeking a laptop-style experience combined with Samsung's DeX desktop mode, especially if they value the included stylus and 5G possibilities, may want to set aside Apple's premium tablet series and opt for Samsung's might be better off.

The Galaxy Tab S7 is expected to launch in August 2020, the same month as Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2, but at a separate event before the smartphone launch. This date is subject to change due to coronavirus-related issues, but the immediate outlook is good as there are currently no rumors circulating regarding delays for Samsung devices.
