iPhone SE Plus Leaked on Big Display just Before iPhone SE Launch [Update]

The iPhone SE 2020 is coming this weekend, but Apple already has an iPhone SE Plus in the works. Update: A new report indicates that a larger screen iPhone SE will debut next year. Details are as follows.

The $399 iPhone SE is still in the pre-sale stage, but it appears that Apple will add a larger option to its refreshed non-flagship models. Since the company discontinued the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, it makes sense to offer some sort of replacement for the latter.

A large-screen iPhone SE Plus with an A13 chipset and Touch ID would likely sell for less than $500. The buzz on such a smartphone is none other than YouTuber Jon Prosser, whose long series of leaks leading up to the release of the iPhone SE gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect before Apple's official announcement.

On Twitter, Prosser teased a second iPhone SE model, saying, "There should be iPhone SE Plus news soon," accompanied by the always iconic, sideways-facing eye emoji.

In response to a follow-up question, Prosser told another Twitter user that he should not cancel his iPhone SE pre-order, suggesting that the iPhone SE Plus would not appear near the iPhone SE's April 24 release date.

And since we are likely less than six months away from the iPhone 12 launch, it is unclear whether another new phone could hit shelves before then.

In fact, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo via MacRumors, Apple has reportedly delayed a larger version of the iPhone SE until late 2021. That's a long time to wait for an affordable large-screen iPhone. So, in the meantime, you may want to check out the less expensive iPhone XR.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were released in 2017, so Apple has sold both for about three years. They were powered by the A11 chip, which is older than the newer A13.

Since the iPhone SE combines Apple's latest chipset with the iPhone 8 design, it is reasonable to assume that the iPhone SE Plus will adopt the iPhone 8 Plus form. If so, it would have a 5.5-inch display between the large forehead and chin and would feature Touch ID/home button.

The iPhone SE Plus may have longer battery life and better camera performance. iPhone 8 Plus had 11 hours of battery life and a second telephoto lens, while the iPhone 8 had just under 10 hours and a single 12MP rear lens It only had a single 12MP rear lens.

Not that Apple will completely reuse the iPhone 8's methodology for the iPhone SE, but if Prosser is correct, the company appears to be headed in that direction.
