Spiderman PS5 Leak reveals more about the story, gameplay and release window

Given the success of the PS4 version of "Marvel's Spider-Man," it seems inevitable that a sequel to the PS5 version of "Spider-Man" will be released. And we may learn for the first time what the PS5 version of "Spider-Man" will be like through leaked information, including a large amount of new story, gameplay, and character details.

The leak comes from a now-deleted Reddit post (via The Game Post) citing a source who allegedly attended Insomniac Games' lengthy presentation on the sequel to the 2018 hit action game. There are tons of details that could be gleaned from this info dump, but here are a few highlights.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man 2!

For starters, "Spider-Man PS5" could introduce several important new mechanics, including a dynamic weather system that provides realistic physics for weather effects such as snow and rain. The presentation reportedly emphasized a focus on smaller, more dynamic side missions that would allow Spider-Man to help everyday people in danger (construction workers, doctors, etc.).

Perhaps the biggest change for Spider-Man PS5 is the introduction of the black symbiote suit that is a Spider-Man staple and was teased in the Spider-Man PS4 ending. The black suit will make Spider-Man more powerful and fluid, and it appears that the suit will feature an unlockable perk skill tree.

On the story front, leaks suggest that Peter is returning to the Daily Bugle as a photographer, suggesting that there could be a major focus on photography-related missions. The fate of Harry Osborn, who went missing during the events of Marvel's Spider-Man and was suggested to be stuck in a Venom-like symbiote, is also likely to be revealed.

As the ending of Marvel's Spider-Man suggests, it appears that Miles Morales will play a larger role and become a playable character in Spider-Man PS5 with his own unique Spider-Man abilities. Norman Osborn is likely to be the main villain this time around, but the presentation also mentioned that Morbius, Carnage, and Wraith have also been named as DLC villains.

The leak suggests that Spider-Man PS5 will be released in the holiday season of 2021, which would be about three years after Marvel's Spider-Man was released.

We do not know how reputable this source is, and this leak should obviously be taken with a grain of salt. However, given that "Marvel's Spider-Man" is one of the best games in PlayStation history and a huge commercial success, a PS5 sequel seems a definite possibility. And some of the storylines mentioned in the alleged presentation seem like a natural progression of the previews we got for "Spider-Man PS4".

Sony's PS5 is expected to launch during the 2020 holiday season, but supply may be somewhat limited at launch. As the end of the year approaches, we will likely learn more about Sony's new console.
