WhatsApp can take a zoom in on this huge update

WhatsApp is considering increasing the maximum number of people allowed on a single voice or video call.

WABetaInfo (via XDA Developers) has confirmed that the latest Android beta version of WhatsApp contains code that suggests users of the latest version of the app will be able to call more people. According to the report, it will be an even number, but no specific number was given. It also does not indicate when this feature will be added.

WhatsApp, a widely used text messaging app primarily in the UK, Europe, and other countries, introduced voice and video calling two years ago, but always had a four-user limit.

Many countries around the world have introduced lockdown measures following the coronavirus outbreak, forcing many people working from home to rely on services like Google Hangouts and Zoom. These services allow up to 250 users to join at once, but some require a paid subscription to do so.

WhatsApp is a free service and should not be expected to rival these services. However, if WhatsApp can surpass Skype's 50-user limit, it could see a lot of use for small businesses and personal calls.
