Those disappointed with the changes in the iPad Pro 2020 may have to wait a while longer for a more significantly revamped model. A new report carries the news that an iPad Pro with a completely new type of display, one worth getting excited about, may not be coming this year.

The news comes via MacRumors and reports a Chinese analyst's claim that the new iPad Pro may be delayed until early 2021. The report cites Jeff Pu of research firm GF Securities as saying that the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro could be delayed due to the "complex panel design" of the Mini-LED display.

An emerging display technology, Mini-LED, is attempting to dethrone OLED as the best screen; Mini-LED screens use tiny LEDs (light-emitting diodes) to backlight the display, and the results are stunning.

The Mini-LED screen demonstrated at CES 2020 has a higher contrast ratio, deeper black tones, and much higher brightness. In addition, they do not have the severe burn-in problems that plague OLED screens.

iPad Pro rumors have been a bit inconsistent this year: before the iPad Pro 2020 was announced in March, we heard that Apple was planning both this model and a 5G iPad Pro with the A14X chip. This powerful processor, if the new model is indeed coming, will give us the speed boost we were hoping for, but didn't get with last month's iPad Pro.

Since this new iPad Pro should be one of up to six Mini-LED display-equipped devices Apple had planned for Q3 2020, this issue could also affect Apple's MacBook Pro plans for late 2020.

But in all of these potential Apple hardware announcements, something really doesn't add up: the iPhone maker rarely updates the same device twice in a year, and multiple updates of the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro in the same year As the iPhone 12 event scheduled for September approaches, we should have a better idea of Apple's future hardware plans.
