iPhone SE Just Killed iphone 8 Plus - and that's Bad news for big phone fans

The new $399 iPhone SE 2020 has been announced, making it the cheapest phone in Apple's lineup. But its arrival means that Apple will no longer sell the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus from its own stores, cutting off access to affordable but well-sized phones.

According to TechRadar, you can still purchase the iPhone 8 for the time being if you can find a retailer with stock. However, once these devices are gone from the shelves of third-party retailers, they will be gone for good now that Apple has discontinued production. And while the new iPhone SE has much better internal specs than the iPhone 8, price and size issues must be considered.

The iPhone 8 was first released in 2017 and served as a cheaper, friendlier alternative to the iPhone X's novel design.

The iPhone 8 Plus has nearly identical specifications to the iPhone 8, but with a 5.5-inch display instead of 4.7 inches. The death of the iPhone 8 Plus in particular may be a blow to those who want as much screen space as possible for their money.

The iPhone 8 Plus sold for around $549, but now that it is no longer available, the cheapest iPhone, larger than the new SE model, is the iPhone XR. Not only is this significantly larger at 6.1 inches, but the price is also a bit higher, starting at $600/509 pounds.

If this cheaper iPhone SE is not what you are looking for, you may want to wait for the Google Pixel 4a. Google is expected to release its own low-cost smartphone in the next few months with a larger 5.7-inch display at a similar price to the iPhone SE. Back it up with Google's superior camera and photo software, and Apple fans might have a good excuse to switch to Android.
