Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Leak, we are more excited for the Galaxy Note 20

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 Leak, we are more excited for the Galaxy Note 20

The Samsung Galaxy Fold was advertised as a smartphone and tablet in one device, but it ended up not being very good in either mode. The 4.6-inch display on the front was too small, and even the expanded 7.3-inch display was smaller than most tablets, including the 7.9-inch iPad mini.

Now comes word that Samsung plans to slim down the Galaxy Fold 2's design while supersizing the display. However, there could be some bad news for this foldable phone, which means there is plenty of room for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 to make some noise.

According to Korean publication ETNews, the Galaxy Fold 2 will open left and right like the original Galaxy Fold, but the new screen size is expected to be "about 8 inches." This would be the largest display yet on a cell phone.

The report also quotes an industry source as saying, "Overall, it's similar to the Galaxy Fold, but we know it can be lighter."

The current Galaxy Fold weighs a whopping 9.5 ounces. To put this in perspective, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra with its 6.9-inch display is a much heavier phone at 7.7 ounces. Therefore, bringing the Galaxy Fold 2 to under 9 ounces would be a feat.

ETNews reports that the Galaxy Fold 2 is targeted for an August launch, with mass production expected to take place between June and July. The Galaxy Note 20 is expected to be unveiled at the same summer event.

According to a Korean Naver blog post (via SamMobile), the Galaxy Fold 2 weighs about 229 grams, equivalent to just 8 ounces. However, it is hard to believe that Samsung would shave off 1.5 ounces while making the display so large.

Last but not least, according to the blog post, the Galaxy Fold 2 comes in two colors, Mars Green and Astro Blue, but color options will vary by region.

The bad news is that the leaker says the Galaxy Fold 2 will not feature an S Pen. While this rumored feature would make the Fold 2 more versatile, the S Pen appears to be relegated to Samsung's Galaxy Note 20; the Note 20 is also rumored to have a new S Pen feature, codenamed Canvas, along with a screen over 7 inches.

Another leak points to Samsung offering two versions of the Galaxy Note 20. One is the Galaxy Note 20 and the other is the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with a more advanced camera.

The jury is still very much out on folding phones, especially due to their high price and lingering durability concerns; the Galaxy Fold costs nearly $2,000, and Samsung's $1,400 Galaxy Z Flip is not cheap either. 21]

But overall, Galaxy Note 20 should be the more accessible of the two flagship phones, and thus may inspire more people.
