The stunning OnePlus8 design makes the Samsung Galaxy S20 look somehow

The design of the OnePlus 8 was revealed in the latest in a series of teasers released by OnePlus itself. And it officially unveiled one of the new phone's more striking color options. Even in the teasers, the OnePlus 8 looks more attractive than the Samsung Galaxy S20.

In a forum post by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, he details the outline of the OnePlus 8 with the help of pencil sketches and YouTube videos. Lau states that "good design is just as important as robust hardware and fast, smooth software," and in his words, the OnePlus 8 sounds like a gorgeous phone.

In the video above, we see the return of OnePlus staples such as the alert slider (something not found on the Galaxy S20), the USB-C charging port, and the curved display of the OnePlus 7 Pro. But there's more to see than what we're used to seeing.

Forum posts focus on what OnePlus calls "CMF," meaning color, material, and finish; the back of the OnePlus 8 will feature matte frosted glass, which is fingerprint resistant and gives a premium look. In contrast, the Galaxy S20's back glass is fingerprint prone.

OnePlus forum posts also boast about how the matte finish on the back of the OnePlus 8 is silky smooth and retains the curves of the OnePlus 7 Pro, which feels good in the hand. This finish is also designed to create a gradient effect, which is described as varying between transparent and opaque depending on how the light hits it.

Glacial Green is the name of the color, which can be seen in a video provided by OnePlus, and Lau says it is the result of testing over 100 candidate shades, reminiscent of the iPhone 11 Pro's Midnight Green. Apple's phone also has a green back with matte glass, except it's a much darker color, and holding my own phone up to the light doesn't give it the dancing hue that OnePlus is promising with the OnePlus 8.

The Galaxy S20, on the other hand, comes in Cosmic Gray and Cosmic Black, both of which are boring. There are, however, brighter Cloud Blue and Cloud Pink options. Still, Glacial Green looks a bit more modern.

What also makes the OnePlus 8 more ergonomic is its lighter weight and thinner profile, and the rumored elimination of the pop-up selfie camera in favor of a punch-hole notch has definitely contributed. Given that other rumors suggest a larger 6.7-inch display, narrowing the rest would help keep the phone user-friendly for the majority of users.

The OnePlus 8 series will be announced at an online event on April 14. We expect variations of the standard OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, with the Pro getting the most exciting new features like a 120Hz refresh rate display and four cameras on the back. However, both new models should offer 5G connectivity.
