The Moto G8PowerLite boasts a huge 5,000mAh battery for under200

Motorola agrees with the adage that big is better than small as it unveils the Moto G8 Power Lite with a massive 5,000 mAh battery. [The Moto G8 Power Lite not only has a large battery that rivals the flagship Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, but also sells for the low price of £149.99 (about $184).

Designed as a more affordable version of the Moto G Power (also called the G9 Power outside the U.S.), the G8 Power Lite maintains that phone's large battery capacity but drops some desirable features. [As of 2020, this resolution is considerably lower than most low-cost smartphones with full HD displays. Also, with a screen size of 6.3 inches, the low resolution is likely to be noticed.

The processor on the Moto G8 Power Lite also uses a MediaTek Helio P35 quad-core chip, which is obviously low-cost. It will be fine for everyday tasks, but power users and mobile gamers would be better off looking elsewhere in the budget smartphone field.

Out of the box, the Moto G8 Power Lite comes with Android 9 Pie instead of the latest Android 10. This is not good news for those looking for the latest Android features, and there is no indication of when it will be upgraded to Android 10.

In terms of cameras, the Moto G8 Power Lite maintains the Moto G Power's main camera form, which uses a 16MP f/2.0 aperture lens, supported by a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. However, the G8 Power Lite does not feature the ultra-wide-angle lens of its more expensive sibling. Depending on your smartphone photography preferences, you may shrug your shoulders at this, or you may lament the lack of a camera capable of wide-angle photography.

However, while the Moto G8 Power Lite lacks quite a few of the features that make the G Power shine, it is important to remember that the latter is priced at $249 (£219 in the UK), making the Lite version clearly cheaper.
