OnePlus8Pro camera leak shows how it beats Samsung Galaxy S20Plus

The latest OnePlus 8 leaks have finally revealed what kind of camera this new Android flagship will have and how it will position itself against rivals like Samsung's Galaxy S20 series.

According to this new information from Indian tech site PriceBaba and leaker Ishan Agarwal, the range-topping OnePlus 8 Pro will feature a 48MP main sensor, 48MP ultra-wide camera, 8MP 3x optical tele camera, and 5MP color filter It will also feature a new Night Portrait mode. It will also feature a new night portrait mode, improved optical image stabilization (OIS) and electronic image stabilization (EIS), 3-HDR video and cinematic effects.

According to Pricebaba's sources, the main 48MP sensor is the same one that Oppo uses in the Find X2, a similarly high-spec and low-cost Android phone. This sensor has the same resolution as the one in the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T, but is actually an upgraded version of the Sony IMX sensor, with a different IMX used for the ultrawide camera.

The 3x optical zoom appears to be the same as that used in the OnePlus 7 Pro, which may disappoint some.

Compared to the Galaxy S20 and S20 Plus, the specs of these cameras look much better. Aside from the telephoto lens, the two cameras on the S20 and S20 Plus are both 12MP, much smaller than OnePlus' 48MP dual camera. However, the OnePlus 8 Pro is not as good as the Galaxy S20 Ultra's 108MP main camera and 48MP telephoto camera. Still, assuming OnePlus keeps the price lower than the tremendous $1,400 entry price of Samsung's top-of-the-line smartphone, this difference in specs won't sting much.

We've also recently seen leaked color options for the OnePlus 8, which are quite exciting compared to those of the latest Samsung and Apple flagships. Interstellar Glow (image above) and Glacial Green will cover users who want to make a statement, while Onyx Black will satisfy those who want something more subtle.

We also heard claims that the OnePlus 8 Lite, a cheaper version of the new phone, will actually go by the name OnePlus Z.

Based on previous rumors, the official launch of the OnePlus 8 series is expected in the next few weeks. When it will be released is another question entirely, but hopefully OnePlus has found a way to overcome the challenges created by the coronavirus outbreak.
