Samsung Galaxy Note 20 design will make you want to skip the Galaxy S20

We recently heard that Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 series will look very similar to the Galaxy S20 series launched last month. These unofficial fan designs represent that strong similarity, but also show how Samsung could make the Note 20 stand out.

These Galaxy Note 20 Plus renderings are by LetsGoDigital, working with frequent collaborator Jermaine Smit, aka Concept Creator. Smit has created both still and moving images and showcased his designs.

On the front, the punch-hole selfie camera is again centered, a trend that began with Samsung's Note 10 released last year. A side angle shows that Smit has given the Note 20 curved edges instead of the flat panel of the S20 series. Samsung has been giving their phones "edge" displays for years, so it would be odd for them to completely abandon this idea for 2020.

The display itself is expected to be at least as large as the 6.7-inch S20 Plus or 6.9-inch S20 Ultra, with a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth performance; the Note 20 is apparently codenamed "Canvas" which suggests that Samsung is focusing on the creative possibilities of this phone.

The S-Pen stylus in these renderings looks similar to the one that came with the Galaxy Note 10. However, we expect some new tricks for the Note 20. Air gestures, remote camera shutter control, and more are already built in, and we look forward to seeing what innovations Samsung will come up with this year.

The camera is one of the features meant to be very similar to the S20 series. That means there will be at least a 12MP front camera, possibly the 40MP selfie camera of the S20 Ultra, and possibly an option for whatever range topping options Samsung offers. On the back, Smit is basing the camera on the one on the S20 Ultra. That means the four rear lenses seen here are for the 108MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 48MP telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom, and a 3D depth camera useful for photo effects and AR applications.

Features that cannot be seen in this rendering but are expected to be included in the Note 20 include a high-capacity 4,500 mAh or 5,000 mAh battery from the S20 Plus and S20 Ultra, a Snapdragon 865 SoC (if outside the US Exynos 990 SoC), 12 GB or more of RAM and 256 GB or more of storage.

If global conditions are normal, a new model in the Galaxy Note series is expected in August. However, with the coronavirus disrupting business worldwide, this date may be postponed after all.
