A surprising number of people are trying to find a way to watch "Containment." Yes, you would think that a movie that is now too close to real life would be the last thing people would want to stream, but the 2011 film seems to be the exception to the rule.

However, the blockbuster, starring Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, and Laurence Fishburne, is only available on one streaming service, so it may be a digital rental or purchase for most people. Contagion revolves around a world struggling to stop an airborne virus that can kill in just a few days. Naturally, society is battling panic as much as it is fighting disease. Contagion received an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics praised director Steven Soderbergh for his masterful handling of the complex subject matter.

Many of the reviews are recent, with critics getting in on the streaming action themselves. Smart and scary, "Containment" is far from an escape from reality, but it is definitely an alternative to watching another hour of cable news.

That's because only a very limited number of people can watch "Contagion" on Netflix. Yes, Netflix, the streaming giant, does not distribute "Contagion" on its servers in the US or UK. It is being distributed by Netflix in Canada. However, Canadians who are traveling can use a VPN to log into Netflix and stream the movie themselves.

Otherwise, they would use the same digital rental or purchase solution as everyone else. Netflix in the U.S. has pandemic-related content, including the 1995 film Outbreak (Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Cuba Gooding Jr.) and the very timely Netflix original documentary Pandemic: How to Prevent an Epidemic is available. The latter has a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, but this is only made up of reviews from six critics.

Thus, as noted above, Canadians far from home, or Americans in similar situations, have difficulty accessing Cinemax Go (also Contagion). However, with a virtual private network (VPN), they can view Contagion (and all other services in their country) from anywhere.
