You can now share your digital movies with Movies Anywhere: Here's how it works

Movies Anywhere, a digital locker service for movies purchased on each platform, will introduce a new feature that allows users to share up to three movies per month with friends and family.

Currently, Movies Anywhere aggregates movies purchased by users from iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play, and Vudu. With the new Screen Pass feature, users send a text from the Movies Anywhere app to share temporary access to three movies with a friend. Screen Pass will roll out in a closed beta program today at 4 p.m. ET.

Recipients must have a Movies Anywhere account to accept. Once the offer is received, the recipient has 7 days to accept the offer and 14 days to access the film after acceptance. Recipients can watch on any device except Roku (although Movies Anywhere is working on this). Once they start watching a movie, they have 72 hours to finish. Unused passes will not be rolled over.

There is no limit to the number of times a movie can be shared, so a Movies Anywhere user can send a link to three friends to watch the same movie.

Not all movies are available on Screen Pass, with 6,000 titles available during the beta period, which is about 60% of the catalog according to Movies Anywhere. Available titles vary by movie studio. In addition, Movies Anywhere does not have access to Paramount, Lionsgate, and MGM films, so "John Wick" and "The Hunger Games" cannot be shared.

If you are a current Movies Anywhere user, you can accept the Screen Pass offer even if you were unable to participate in the closed beta; Movies Anywhere plans to roll out an extensive beta program in May.
