The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro were imagined with a new design by Jermaine Smit a.k.a. Concept Creator in cooperation with LetsGoDigital.

The two phones deviate significantly from the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7 Pro released last year. This is most evident on the front, where the water-drop notch and pop-up selfie camera of the 7T and 7 Pro respectively have been replaced by a hole punch in the upper left corner.

The display in which the camera is embedded is said to be a 120Hz refresh rate panel, comparable to Samsung's Galaxy S20 series and an improvement over the 90Hz displays used in the OnePlus 7 series and Google Pixel 4. The left and right edges of the display remain the curves that Samsung abandoned on the S20.

On the side are the familiar OnePlus power and volume buttons, as well as the alert slider switch.

No internal details are visible in this concept, but a Snapdragon 865 CPU, 8GB or 12GB of RAM depending on the model, 128GB or 256GB of storage, and a 4,000 mAh or 4,500 mAh battery (30W wireless or wired charging), 5G support is expected by default.

The two phones look much more similar than previous OnePlus models: the horizontally positioned circular camera bump of the OnePlus 7T is gone, replaced by a vertically stacked camera bump in the center; OnePlus has two completely different-looking phones with similar names It did the sensible thing here, as it makes much more sense to have a unified design across the series than to have two phones with similar names.

The camera itself will likely be a main/ultra-wide/telephoto combination as seen on the OnePlus 7 series, at least according to various leaks including Robert Downey Jr.

The OnePlus 8 Pro will also have a time of flight sensor. OnePlus 8 Pro will also have a time-of-flight sensor. Previous OnePlus phones have tended to have more subtle color options, with the exception of bright orange details on special edition phones like the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren, but having some bright options that match dark blue or silver would would be welcome.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, it remains to be seen when OnePlus and other tech companies will hold their launch events. However, according to the latest rumors, the OnePlus 8 series will be announced in mid-April, which is only about a month away.
