Motorola Edge Plus to fight Ultra Samsung Galaxy S108 with 20MP camera

It is well known that Motorola is planning a flagship device to compete with the best Android phones. However, new leaks have revealed that Motorola is hoping that the upcoming Moto Edge Plus will be able to compete with Samsung's Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Specifically, according to a post by Twitter leaker TechDroider, the main camera in the Moto Edge Plus' rear camera array will be a 108 megapixel sensor. This will be accompanied by 16MP and 8MP shooters (presumably an ultra-wide angle lens and a telephoto lens).

If this 108 megapixel spec sounds familiar, that's because it's the same as the main shooter on the back of the 4x-lens Galaxy S20 Ultra. The camera is the main feature of Samsung's $1,399 flagship, and the 108MP main sensor can capture more detail, especially in low-light environments. (The 108MP sensor has also been the source of some complaints over the S20 Ultra, with reviewers pointing to autofocus issues.)

By matching the specs of Samsung's leading handsets, Motorola would demonstrate its willingness to compete with the best Android phones; Motorola's past efforts, such as the Moto Z series, to compete with the leading flagships of other Android phone makers have been low price, it has scaled back some features in the name of offering a lower price.

According to previous leaks regarding Motorola's return to the flagship smartphone game, this does not appear to be the case with the Moto Edge Plus. Previous Moto Edge Plus leaks indicated that the phone would feature a Snapdragon 865 system-on-chip (the same chipset found in top Android phones in 2020) and a 6.67-inch display with a faster 90Hz refresh rate The Galaxy S20 lineup was said to feature a 120Hz refresh rate, while OnePlus and Google's recent flagship models support a 90Hz refresh rate.

TechDroider's Moto Edge Plus leak also includes information about the upcoming phone's front camera. This camera will be housed in a punch hole in the upper left corner of the Moto Edge Plus' display.

A rendered image created by cell phone leaker OnLeaks and posted on Pricebaba shows what the Moto Edge Plus will look like based on these leaked information about Motorola's phone. The rendered image shows a waterfall display on the front, a small hole punch, and a triple camera stack on the back.

It is unclear when Motorola will unveil the Moto Edge Plus. Rumors had predicted that the phone would debut at last month's Mobile World Congress, but that trade show was canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
