Sony's WH-1000XM4 headphones may be closer than we think. Images of the noise-canceling headphones competing with the Bose have surfaced online, revealing a familiar design but with the potential to double the battery life of the Bose 700.

Twitter user Everton Favretto shared an Anatel-listed image of the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones, which look like a refreshed version of the acclaimed Sony WH-1000XM3.

Sony has not actually confirmed that it is currently working on a follow-up to the best pair of headphones. However, as the Brazilian version of the FCC, Anatel's official listing may mean that the Sony WH-1000XM4 has a green light to hit store shelves.

The Verge first reported Favretto's M4s leak, noting how the included user manual revealed the differences seen in the next generation of Sony's top audio devices.

The biggest upgrade appears to be battery life. The Sony WH-1000XM4 has 40 hours of runtime, up from 36 hours on the M3s. In contrast, the Bose 700 headphones have a battery life of 20 hours.

The manual also describes a feature called "speak to chat," which appears to be a way to call a voice assistant like Google Assistant or Alexa without having to tap the action button on the M3s.

While this manual is probably a draft, it is reasonable to assume that the M4's Bluetooth will be upgraded from Bluetooth 4.2 to Bluetooth 5.

Details on pricing and availability are unknown, but the Sony WH-1000XM4s will likely cost about $350. This is the retail price of the Sony WH-1000XM3 and also the initial price of the Sony WH-1000XM2.
