The Samsung Galaxy A21 is the cheap Galaxy S20 alternative you are looking for

This is the new Samsung Galaxy A21. It's Samsung's latest budget phone, and has little to do with the shiny Galaxy S20.

It doesn't have the latest and fanciest camera features, the fastest processor, or the insane amount of RAM and storage available in Samsung's outrageously expensive flagships. But. It looks good enough to me!

Android Headlines got an exclusive look at what this low-cost phone will look like when it launches "very soon" in the US, along with some solid specs.

Android Headlines claims that the Samsung Galaxy A21 (the successor to the Galaxy A20, apparently the seventh best-selling phone of 2019) has an Infinity-O display with a punch hole in the upper left corner. The blog claims that it is smaller than the Galaxy S10's, but larger than the Galaxy S20's.

Unlike the S20, the A21 does not have an in-display fingerprint reader; instead, it has a regular fingerprint reader on the back. While the former is a security issue, it is nice to have, but avoiding putting my finger on the back of the phone is not worth $999 to me.

The most important thing about this display, however, is that it is AMOLED. The resolution is not QHD, of course, but it is HD+. Again, good enough for most people.

Samsung is said to have included four cameras in the A21, doubling the A20's two sensors. There is no information on the sensors yet, but the main camera should have a wide lens, telephoto, ultra-wide angle, and a depth sensor, which will be a regular monochrome 5MP sensor, not a 3D time-of-flight (ToF) sensor. Do we need a 3D ToF sensor to take blurry pictures or collect depth information? No, thanks to AI you don't need it. In other words, for most people this is enough.

Having three sensors with three different lens senses gives this phone the capabilities of a high-end one like the Galaxy S20, but at a fraction of the cost. Sure, the sensors may not be the latest and greatest, but at the lower end of the price range, they are probably good enough for most people.

The phone has a good amount of features: an Exynos 7904 CPU (not as fast as the Snapdragon 865, but okay), 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage (with optional expansion via a micro SD card slot).

To power this package wrapped in hard plastic, the blog claims there is a 4,000mAh battery inside. Knowing the phone's specs and the fact that it doesn't come with 5G connectivity will likely take you through a full day of work without any problems. In fact, in our Galaxy A20 review, Samsung's previous budget phone lasted a whopping 13 hours and 46 minutes on a charge.

We only know the Galaxy A21's supposed specs and design. We know that it is coming to these shores and that it could arrive in India on March 6, but know nothing about an arrival date in the US or Europe.

As for the price, we do know that the A20 cost $250 and was considered an excellent value thanks to its features.

Samsung will probably keep that price point while significantly improving the new phone's features. Certainly, given that the Galaxy S20 hasn't sold well due to the $100 price increase (coronavirus or not), there should be something to grab onto. And it's no coincidence that of the 10 best-selling smartphones of 2019, the top one was the low-priced iPhone XR, Apple's gateway to the world of full-screen smartphones. Furthermore, there was not a single S line phone on that list.

We can't wait to get our hands on this low-cost battle horse. It's not flashy, and it's not amazing technology in the most sophisticated package. But honestly, I don't care. As long as it performs well enough at a low price, it's good enough for me.

That's all I have to say.
