Google has acknowledged a Bluetooth connectivity issue with its Google Home smart speaker that has existed for at least a year. As of last month, the company said it is working on a fix.

Users have shared posts on Reddit and Twitter dating back to December 2018 about the inability of the Google Home and Home Mini smart speakers to maintain a Bluetooth link without disconnecting.Android Police cataloged a series of complaints and found Google's recent response.

Android Police writers also experienced connectivity issues firsthand. They, along with several users complaining on Reddit and Twitter, stated that their Google Home speakers would disconnect from paired Bluetooth devices minutes after they worked properly.

It's not that Google Home can't play music; with Google Assistant and Chromecast, you can stream all kinds of audio to your home speakers connected to Wi-Fi. The problem here is when you try to DJ with a Bluetooth-enabled device such as a smartphone or tablet.

Bluetooth may not be the preferred way to play music on smart home speakers, but it was the expected option at the time of purchase, and it is quite surprising that it took Google this long to realize how widespread this problem is.

If you have Bluetooth issues with your Google Home, Home Mini, or Nest Mini speakers, try using a Wi-Fi compatible workaround, such as casting audio or asking Google Assistant for music.

And now that Google has acknowledged the Bluetooth issue, hopefully a fix will be made more quickly.
