The 6.9-inch Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra's 120Hz OLED display is great. But Samsung has just announced an even better new OLED screen.

The new display, made by Samsung Display and announced in a press release, is optimized for 5G phones. The screen will have two benefits: reduced power consumption and reduced blue light, but we have higher hopes for the former.

How much improvement? According to testing institute UL, Samsung's new panel consumes 15% less power. The average power consumption dropped from 1.5W to 1.3W when performing various activities such as taking pictures, watching entertainment, and surfing the web.

According to SGS, a testing and verification company, Samsung's new OLED displays also emit 6.5% of blue light, lower than the 7.5% emitted by Samsung's OLED panels released last year.

Studies have shown that while blue light is not harmful to the eyes, blue light does affect sleep quality; given that screen use time is expected to increase further as 5G networks become more prevalent, some users feel that less blue light makes the viewing experience more pleasant Some users feel that the viewing experience will be more pleasant with less blue light.
