If you've been reading up on iPhone 12 rumors, there are plenty of new features coming to Apple's new phone lineup this fall, including 5G and a new, faster A14 Bionic chip. But how will the hardware and software work together?

New leaks have revealed the first images and video of iOS 14, the new operating system Apple will unveil at this year's WWDC 2020 event in June.

Based on assets obtained by Ben Geskin and reported by 91mobiles, iOS 14 will debut a new multitasking interface that works similarly to the iPadOS.

Instead of seeing a stack of vertical thumbnails that must be scrolled horizontally, users will be able to see four open apps at once. This move makes sense given the iPhone's larger screen. [The regular iPhone 12 is 5.4 inches, the two models are 6.1 inches (iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro), and the largest is the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The video taken shows iOS 14 multitasking running on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The multitasking view pops up quickly and is easy to close by swiping up on an app. Swiping to the right also shows more open apps.

Interestingly, it appears that you can lock certain apps to prevent accidental closure.

According to Ben Geskin, Apple gives iOS 14 users four options for switching Apps in Settings: Automatic, Deck Switcher, Grid Switcher, and Minimum Viable Switcher.

The other major change expected is that iOS 14 will allow third-party apps to be selected as the default option, but this has not been confirmed. The good news is that you don't have to buy an iPhone 12 to run iOS 14 and enjoy this new perk. Currently, iOS 13 runs on all iPhones up to the iPhone 6s series and iPhone SE.

However, in terms of multitasking and overall performance running iOS 14, the iPhone 12 is expected to provide the smoothest experience.
