Sony Xperia1II: Sony launches 4 smartphones, including the new flagship

Sony has announced a new smartphone for 2020: the Sony Xperia 1 II ("Mark 2" following the Iron Man suit naming convention) is Sony's new flagship and follow-up to last year's Sony Xperia 1

. The entry-level Sony Xperia L4 and the Sony Xperia Pro, a 5G-enabled device that will only be available in limited quantities worldwide, make up the remainder of the new series.

The Sony Xperia 1 II is Sony's top-of-the-line device for 2020. While last year's handset was hailed as a quality handset, albeit a bit too weird for some buyers, Sony has doubled down on the large 21:9 "n" tall ratio. The Sony Xperia 1 II has a 6.5-inch 4K HDR screen, perfect for watching movies on the go, and 5G support makes streaming from Netflix a breeze.

The audio quality is also a focus. In a surprising move, Sony has opted to bring back the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Xperia 1 II.

Wired headphones are free of Bluetooth interference and often offer better sound quality at the same price as wireless headphones, so Sony is trying to capture people who enjoy media on their phones. They support high-resolution audio up to 192 kHz and feature a "cinematic audio" mode, a collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony's film division.

With its ultra-wide screen, stereo speakers, and headphone jack, this phone is a mobile movie buff's and gamer's dream. The sides of the screen are more sensitive to thumbs in the landscape format compared to last year's model, which also improves performance for gamers. The "Competition Set" mode also stops background applications from running, freeing up RAM to focus solely on delivering the best gaming experience.

Moving on to the phone's guts, the Sony Xperia 1 II is powered by the same chipset as the Samsung Galaxy S20, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, putting the two models in direct competition. 4,000mAh battery, Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protects the front and back, and the fingerprint sensor is located on the right side.

The Xperia 1 II is designed for media consumers, but it appears to be no slouch in the content creation arena either. It features three ZEISS optical 12MP rear cameras with ultra-wide angle lenses and a 3D time-of-flight sensor to better predict depth of field when shooting. It also features a "Pro Mode" with AI adjusting the shooting and exposure and Sony's Wizard Alpha camera technology for more advanced editing.

As for video, the phone records at select frame rates: 24fps, 25fps, 30fps, and 60fps; this is because most movies are displayed at 24fps and most video games are displayed at 60fps, so the recorded video will have crystal You can expect clear, silky-smooth motion, and the automatic wind filter blocks out ambient sounds other than the one you're pointing at.

Sony claims this flagship model is "built for speed," but as is, it's loaded with features and sounds like anything but. It will be available in black and purple and will be released in spring 2020, but no price point has been revealed yet.

The second phone to be released by Sony is the Sony Xperia 10 II. Sony's mid-range entry maintains the 21:9 ratio from its predecessor, and its 6-inch OLED FHD screen is a bit shorter than the flagship, but still an excellent choice for watching movies.

The screen is slightly shorter than the Xperia 1 II, but it has high-res audio capabilities, and the Xperia 10 Mark 2 also has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

This mid-ranger sports a triple-lens rear camera setup with two 8MP sensors and a 12MP main camera. The front selfie camera is also 8MP. It has a 3600mAh battery with adaptive charging and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 665 chipset.

Available in black and white, the Xperia 10 II will be available in spring 2020, the same time as its siblings in the series. Last year's Sony Xperia 10 was rated as a bit of a disappointment, so expect Sony to surpass it with the 10 II. So far, the announced specs suggest that it will be a good but not great looking product.

The Sony Experia L4 is a sequel to the entry-level Sony Xperia L3 and looks to be a decent value, while maintaining all the entry through lines so far. Sony's entry-level device maintains its signature 21:9 screen, triple-camera setup, side-on fingerprint sensor, and audio jack. [The 6.2-inch screen is just right for watching movies, and the 5MP ultrawide, 13MP lens and 2MP depth camera sensor ensure that even entry-level handsets can take advantage of Sony's best camera features, including time-of-flight depth detection. 3GB RAM, 64GB memory, MT 6762 chipset, the price point is likely to be only a few hundred dollars.

Sony's final device is a bit odd: it has a 6.5-inch 4K screen, a triple-lens camera, and 8GB of RAM.

However, it is not set for widespread release and is currently exclusive to companies in a few markets. The big attraction is the 5G SU6 network, which is designed to link with more advanced devices such as cameras and allow live streaming over 5G. it is unclear if the Xperia Pro will ever reach users, but it is likely that aspects of this device will be reflected in Sony's future product line.

I like it.
