Samsung Galaxy Z Flip shortage coronavirus likely closed factory

Samsung's new foldable phones are about to become even harder to find.

The factory that makes Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Fold is shutting down at least until Monday, February 24, after an employee was diagnosed with coronary spasm.

As reported by SamMobile, Samsung is closing its smartphone factory in Gumi, South Korea. The infected employees are reportedly "members of the wireless division responsible for smartphone production." Reuters also confirmed the shutdown.

According to CNN, there are already more than 430 coronavirus cases in South Korea, with more than 220 new infections reported in the past 24 hours. [South Korean Prime Minister Chung Se-kyun has said that South Korea is in a "serious situation."

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is already hard to find in the U.S., as many retailers are out of stock of the foldable phone. Best Buy now says it plans to have the Galaxy Z Flip in stock soon.

Sam Mobile's report also states that people who have had contact with infected employees are being quarantined.

For now, the company plans to close the Gumi plant for the weekend, but plans could change drastically if more people become infected.

The good news for Samsung, according to Reuters, is that Samsung's factory in Gumi City "accounts for a small fraction of total smartphone production. Samsung produces most of its smartphones in Vietnam and India.

But if you were hoping to get your hands on a Galaxy Z Flip, now you'll have to wait longer.
