iPhone12 may use this new fast charger, which is very small

According to a new report, Apple, Samsung, Oppo, and other manufacturers will soon begin using a new gallium nitride technology developed to reduce power adapter size while maintaining the same wattage.

This means that Apple may adopt this technology for the new iPhone 12, iPad 2020, and MacBook Pro 2020.

As reported by Chinese IT publication Caifa News (via Gizchina), the new fast charging technology was developed by Xiaomi and is already being used in new power adapters such as the following that come with the company's new Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro.

Compared to Apple's current 61W power brick for the MacBook Pro, it is enormous by comparison.

This size difference is obviously shocking. Xiaomi's 65W adapter with USB-C port can charge a new flagship smartphone in just 45 minutes.

This also means that less powerful chargers will shrink to almost half their size, making them incredibly small devices. Imagine your current iPhone charger cut in half.

The miniaturization is the result of replacing current silicon-based technology with gallium nitride (GaN); the use of GaN technology reportedly reduces the size of existing solutions by 48%. Two integrated circuits made of this metal alloy, the Nanomicro NV6115 and NV6117, are in use.

Another advantage of this new technology, aside from its ridiculously small size, is that it senses the needs of what it connects to and sends just the right amount of power that the device requires. This means that Apple will be able to ship one adapter that can power everything from AirPods cases to the latest 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Apparently these chargers are already available in China for about $21, and will probably be available in other parts of the world soon.)
