The new Gmail "search chip" will make your life much easier

If you have ever struggled to find a specific email in your Gmail inbox, Gmail's new search feature should ease the hassle of searching for a specific email in a crowded inbox.

This Gmail tool, which Google calls a "search tip," allows you to narrow your inbox search and further refine the results. For example, if you search for a specific contact's name, Google will provide you with a number of tips to choose from to help you find the exact message you are trying to find.

Previously, Gmail users could manually enter search filters such as label:birthday party, has:attachment, or from:[email protected]. However, searching this way was quite tedious, and even as a long-time Gmail user, I find myself sifting through dozens of emails before entering the robotic controls.

At the start, there are a number of search tip filters you can try in your inbox. You can refine your search by sender, time frame, and whether the message contains attachments. In addition, the type of attachment can be specified.

Search tips can also filter out certain types of messages, such as unwieldy calendar invitation updates or redundant Google alerts.

Anyone who uses Gmail knows that the search system needed improvement. In a blog post announcing the announcement, Google said that it listened to its users and "heard that Gmail search could and should be faster and more intuitive."

The Gmail update with the search chip has already started arriving in G Suite users' inboxes, but it could take up to 15 days to appear.
