Google Pixel4a and Pixel5 are not shunned by Verizon (update)

9:22 a.m. ET Update: Verizon released a statement.

Google's Pixel 4a and Pixel 5 may not have room on the shelves at the nation's largest carrier. In fact, it appears that Verizon may give up on Google's Pixel phones for good.

Android Police reports that Verizon is frustrated with poor sales of the Pixel 4, Pixel 3a, and other Pixel phones. As a result, the company reportedly will not sell either the Pixel 4a or the Pixel 5.

Money Quote?" At this point, sources believe that the chances of the Pixel 4a appearing on Verizon have dropped to zero."

The Pixel 4a was supposed to be announced at this year's Google I/O on May 12. However, if Verizon does not support the phone, it will make it much harder for Google to get mid-range phones into the hands of shoppers.

Verizon issued the following statement to Android Authority: "This report is not true. Verizon continues to work with Google and we look forward to our new portfolio of devices."

The company also stated.

The Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL turned out to be a great value, and the $399 Pixel 3a topped our list of best budget phones. You won't find a better camera phone in this price range. However, consumers don't seem to be embracing Google's Pixel lineup.

It doesn't help that the Pixel 4 suffered from short battery life and a dim display, and that the motion-sensing gestures appeared to be a gimmick. Sure, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL made the list of best camera phones, but apparently that's not enough to entice buyers.

The catastrophe was pushed to the wall: in early February, Google reported in its financial results that its hardware division's revenue had declined, but did not give specifics.

The Pixel 3a has been a relatively strong performer for Google, selling 4.1 million units in the first half of 2019, according to IDC. However, it is a sparrow compared to Apple and Samsung, which are juggernauts.

However, according to analysts, the Pixel 4 is not selling at all, and overall Google has failed to break into the top five smartphone makers.

Google has yet to comment on these latest developments, but we will keep you updated.
