Spotify News: New lyrics feature lets you get into the groove of karaoke

Spotify is a great service to search and listen to all kinds of music, but if you want to sing along, you usually have to search for the lyrics yourself. Until today's update.

As Android Police (via 9to5Google) first discovered, lyrics for the song you're listening to will pop up below the track controls on both the mobile and desktop versions of Spotify, courtesy of lyrics service Musicxmatch . If you want to see just the lyrics, you can tap the appropriate box to display them, and they will be highlighted to indicate which part of the song you are listening to.

If you are not sure if a song supports this new feature, check the album or playlist track. Songs that support this new feature will have a white box under the song title that says "Lyrics."

Spotify previously provided limited access to lyrics on some songs using the "Behind the Lyrics" box provided by Genius. However, this only displays some of the words while explaining the background of the song; the new feature is lyrics only. It is unclear at this time whether this will replace the Behind the Lyrics box.

Spotify's lyrics display feature is not yet live on the author's iPhone 11 Pro, but it appears to be rolling out to iOS and Android phones and all Internet browsers in the near future.
