Apple Air Tag Tracker is likely to debut along with iPhone9 on May 12

Apple has been rumored to be working on a new tracker product to compete with the Tile Pro to be the best key finder on the market. And now we have a better idea of when the big announcement will be.

The source is reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who claims that production of ultra-wideband chips for Apple will increase significantly in the second or third quarter of 2020 (i.e., between April and September).

As reported by 9to5 Mac, Kuo did not say exactly what these chips will be used for, but it is very likely that these chips will be for object tracking. Ultra-wideband signals are ideal for finding objects because they can travel short distances without requiring much power to transmit.

Given the production timeframe, it is reasonable to expect AirTags to be announced at Apple's typical September event. There is a slight chance that AirTags will be unveiled at WWDC in June, but WWDC tends to focus on apps and OS updates rather than products.

AirTags are expected to work with Apple's Find My app, since that is where the tags were first discovered; like Tile's tags, they could be used to locate lost items such as keys or bags, but they could also be used to locate your own iPhone 11 or other iPhones with Apple's U1 chip would also be used to find other people's AirTag-attached items. In addition, an AR mode would be available that would display the location of the tag in the immediate vicinity when you get close to it.

To get the most out of AirTags, you will need at least an iPhone 11, but it will also work with the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
