Surface Laptop3 has a nasty screen issue and so far no fixes

According to recent user reports, the Surface Laptop 3 is experiencing serious display issues. To make matters worse, Microsoft is trying to make its affected users pay for the fix.

As reported by ZDNet, several users on Reddit and Microsoft forums have claimed that the Surface Laptop 3 screen is randomly cracking, even though they have not dropped or moved it. According to Microsoft user BipolarBarbie, just two weeks after purchasing his Surface Laptop 3, "hairline cracks in the glass on the right side of the screen" began appearing. Several users who replied to this thread had the same problem.

A Microsoft representative replied to the thread, but the response did not please the user. According to Microsoft, those who own a Surface Laptop 3 that is still under warranty can use an accidental damage claim to replace the laptop for a "deductible fee." It is unclear how much this exact fee is, but users on Microsoft's forums claim that they have been asked to pay a fee of $700 to $800 to replace their Surface devices.

Microsoft commented to ZDNet, noting that it is "evaluating the situation and investigating the root cause of the complaint."

Reviews of the Surface Laptop 3 gave Microsoft's premium notebook 3.5 out of 5 stars for its elegant design, impressive speakers, and vivid, bright display. However, we found its performance and battery life to be a bit underwhelming for the price, and while there is still much to like about the Surface Laptop 3, you may want to hold off on purchasing one until Microsoft gets to the bottom of this display issue.
