Is this the secret weapon of the Samsung Galaxy Note12 with iPhone20?

Now that the Samsung Galaxy S20 series and the Samsung Galaxy Z flip have been revealed to the world, we are already looking to Samsung's future. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is next in line, and eager smartphone fans are on the lookout for any and all information on what the Korean manufacturer has planned.

Smartphone technology blog PatentlyMobile, which reports on applications from Samsung, Google, and Microsoft, has discovered a patent recently granted to Samsung by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

It covers a new curved display that stretches more than 100 degrees around the edge of the phone and incorporates physical buttons like the traditional "power" and "volume" switches into the curvature of the screen itself. You can check out the new design below:

As you can see from the design above, the screen has cutouts where the buttons protrude, just as the selfie camera is visible through a punch hole in the front screen. Samsung has previously filed a patent for side-on touch controls, and seems to be considering both avenues for its next-generation smartphone.

Samsung's Galaxy Note series consists of "phablet" models designed to give users ample screen area. With more space, users can use the included S Pen stylus to write, draw, and create over a larger area. Such a wraparound curved screen contributes to the surface area while reducing the overall size of the device.

It must be emphasized that the approval of the patent does not guarantee that Samsung will implement the technology immediately or at all. However, the smartphone maker is reportedly working hard to offer the Note 20 its best screen to date.

Recent information from top leaker Iceuniverse suggests that the Note 20 will feature a more advanced version of the S20's 120Hz refresh rate. Check it out:

With its wraparound screen and accompanying silky smooth refresh rate, the Note 20 will likely have the largest and best display on the market.

Will the Note 20's incredible display be its secret weapon to gain an edge over rival Apple? As usual, we will have to wait until both models are in our hands later this year to make a final decision.
