One of the world's largest consumer electronics companies is offering a 60-year cloud storage plan for the ultimate bargain. I don't even know if I'll be alive next Monday, and these people are trying to make me think 60 years into the future.

Xiaomi, the world's fourth largest smartphone maker and one of the most popular consumer electronics brands on the planet, has announced two new plans that made me say "what the heck" this morning: according to a report unearthed by Gizmochina, the Xiaomi Cloud service is 10 years 200GB for $92 and 200GB for 60 years for about $230.

Unless my math is wrong, the 60-year plan costs just $0.31 per month for 200GB. In other words, $0.00155 per month per GB. Even without factoring in inflation, a dollar today would be much cheaper over the next 60 years.

For comparison, Apple charges $2.99/month for 200GB on iCloud, which is $0.01/month per GB; Google One also offers 200GB for $2.99/month (there is also a 2 terabyte annual plan for $99.99, a significant savings). Dropbox, on the other hand, is very expensive at $19.99/month for 200 GB.

Obviously, Xiaomi's 60-year (and 10-year) plans offer insane savings over anywhere else.

The only question is whether the company will still be around in 60 years. No one knows that for sure. Not many consumer electronics companies survive that long. But maybe! But maybe! Nothing is certain.

And of course, the other question is whether any of us will be around in 60 years. By that time, the entire human species may have disappeared. Still, even if Xiaomi or the earth collapses in 10 years, the 60-year plan will be cheaper than any of the other options.
