Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Release Date, review, trailer, Redesign and cast

Need to hurry up and see the movie "Sonic the Hedgehog" this weekend? Well, that depends on how much you love the iconic Sega character, what you think of the critical reviews, and what you think of Jim Carrey's renaissance.

The Sonic movie arrives after a significant delay, thanks to the screams of horror in the first trailer, where the ring-collecting hero just seemed to go wrong. After this course correction, will Sonic the Hedgehog succeed or will it go straight to Netflix?

While the history of video game films is not exactly solid, the studio's willingness to adapt to fan feedback gives us hope for the quality of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. In fact, we plan to see it with a bunch of people at a movie theater near Tom's Guide's office.

Now that you've revved your engines for the Sonic movie, here's everything you need to know to decide if you need to dive headfirst into this possible Sonic the Hedgehog movie world.

The "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie opens in theaters today, Friday, February 14 (wear a ring with Sonic this Valentine's Day!). . However, like many major films, "Sonic the Hedgehog" was technically released a day early, with many theaters showing the film on the evening of February 13.

Details of the post-credit scene for the "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie have also been revealed.

Currently, "Sonic the Hedgehog" has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 70%. Vulture reporter Birge Ebiri praised Jim Carrey for "bringing back the unpredictable energy of his golden age," but also noted that it "may have been the biggest hit of 1996, for better or worse."

ComicBook.com's Spencer Perry said it captures the spirit of the game and the character, and Empire's Amon Warman praised Carey's performance as "in top form," but said the storytelling is off.

In the official trailer for the film "Sonic the Hedgehog," the main character ventures out of the Green Hill Zone into our universe. And like all beings with special powers in the film, he is almost immediately hunted for capture by an evil man with amazing facial hair.

His enemy, of course, is the wily Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey chews the scenery like candy here). Sonic's only hope, as you can see, is a goofball named Tom Waschowski, played by James Marsden.

If you missed the trailer for the original Sonic the Hedgehog movie (now deleted) and wondered what Sonic looked like, wonder no more; the folks at Entertainment Access have released the original April 2019 trailer combined with the November 2019 version, so you can see the new clip before the old trailer.

As you can see from the stills in the trailer, the original Sonic is much less cartoonish, with a much truer nose, smaller eyes, and ...... Well, the less said about the teeth the better. Also note how oddly muscular and athletic the original Sonic looked.

In addition to the main cast, expect some special surprises. Garry Chalk, who voiced Grounder in "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" and Robotnik in "Sonic Underground," is set to appear.
