5 Ways Galaxy Z Flip Destroys Motorola Razr

The flip phone revival got off to a rocky start. A review of the Motorola Razr has arrived. While this $1,500 phone has a sleek design and the Quick View display on the outside is a clever touch, Motorola's latest phone suffers from several shortcomings, including mediocre performance, short battery life, and a display that doesn't look or feel very durable.

Will the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip be any better, especially considering that Samsung's Galaxy Fold didn't set the world on fire? Yes, it does. We'll know more once the smartphone is officially unveiled today (February 11), but thanks to previous leaks and Samsung's own Oscar ad trailers, we already know plenty of details.

There are several ways in which the Galaxy Z Flip already outperforms the Razr.

The Galaxy Z Flip will reportedly feature a rather massive 6.7-inch display, surpassing the Razr's 6.2-inch OLED panel. In fact, 6.7 inches is larger than the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max. we will have to wait and see how bright the Z Flip's screen is, but it will certainly be brighter than the Razr's 386-nit panel. more than 400 nits, ideally 500 nits or more is desirable.

Motorola has made clear the fact that the Motorola Razr's plastic foldable display may show lumps and bumps, but that doesn't make us feel any better about it The Galaxy Z Flip has a leaked ultra-thin glass display, which may prove to be more durable. At the very least, there will be fewer wrinkle marks and screen dents over time. We will find out sooner or later.

The Motorola Razr has the worst battery life of any flagship phone in recent years. This is about half the runtime of the top handset on our best handset battery life list. This is not a big surprise since this phone has a battery of only 2,510 mAh.

The Galaxy Z Flip, on the other hand, is expected to have a 3,300 mAh battery. This is a step up from Motorola, although not a big one. What remains to be seen is whether Samsung's larger battery will be offset by the Z Flip's larger display.

Shoppers looking for a foldable phone may value fashion over specs, but it doesn't hurt that the Galaxy Z Flip outperforms the Razr across the board in this category. the Z Flip has the fastest chip inside a smartphone in 2019, the Snapdragon 855+ CPU, reportedly. This processor is not as cutting-edge as the Snapdragon 865 that will be in the Galaxy S20, but it beats Razr's Snapdragon 710.

The Galaxy Z flip should also have more RAM (8GB vs. 6GB) and storage (256GB vs. 128GB) than the Razr. And if you're paying this much for a phone, you'll want something a little more future-proof.

At least on paper, the Galaxy Z Flip should take better photos than the Razr and have more shooting options; the Z Flip should have two main 12MP cameras, including an ultra-wide angle lens, while the Razr has one 16MP camera.

On the front, there should be a 10MP camera that doubles the resolution of the Razr's 5MP selfie cam; the Razr's camera didn't surprise us in our review, so even if the Z Flip's camera is Galaxy S10-grade, it would be a step up.

The Galaxy Z Flip is rumored to start at $1,400 while the Razr is $1,500. This $100 difference won't make a huge difference, but if all the above rumored features and specs prove to be true, we should be able to get more foldable phones.

Stay tuned for our hands-on Galaxy Z Flip review.
