The CPU of Pixel4a just leaked, but there is also bad news

Google got a surprise hit when it unveiled the Pixel 3a, a mid-range version of the existing Pixel 3. We now expect the Pixel 4a to arrive soon, and we have another leak that helps to show that this prediction is correct.

Long-standing suspicions that the Pixel 4a's codename is "sunfish" (mambo) have been proven true by XDA Developers (via Android Central), who examined some code.

"sunfish" is known to be powered by a Snapdragon 730 chip, and its codename has been linked to the Pixel 4a, ensuring that this is the CPU in the new phone.

The Pixel 3a used the Snapdragon 670, so moving from the Series 6 to the Series 7 Qualcomm SoC will ensure a noticeable performance boost.

Unfortunately, the Snapdragon 730 is not compatible with new network standards, which may mean there will not be a 5G version of the Pixel 4a as previously rumored. Since both Google products, codenamed "bramble" and "redfin," use the 5G-compatible Snapdragon 765 chip, it is possible that other versions of the Pixel 4a using a different CPU with 5G support exist. However, it is also possible that these are not part of the same product family.

The Google Pixel 4a is expected to make its first appearance at Google's I/O 2020 developer conference in May; the Pixel 4a rumor page summarizes the information known so far.
