Raptor Review: What Critics Say About the Harley Quinn Movie

Reviews have arrived for Birds of Prey, but is this all-female superhero film getting high marks from film critics or is it struggling?

The film (full title: Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) stars Margot Robbie reprising her role from 2016's Suicide Squad.

Birds of Prey currently has an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes; check out a sample "Birds of Prey" review.

tl;dr: Katie Rife, never a fan of Zack Snyder's grim DCEU films, appreciated the flash and fun. She also likes the humor and gags, but the lighthearted approach to violence spoils the fight scenes.

Key quote: "(The film) succeeds less as a comic book adventure and more as a madcap comedy that follows Harley Quinn through the streets of Gotham." (full review)

tl;dr: a fun but bumpy roller coaster

Margot Robbie and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are singled out by Owen Gleiberman, who generally enjoys the DCEU's direction in Birds of Prey Birds of Prey. But while Gleiberman praises the film's DGAF attitude, it also proves to be a bit vacuous.

An important quote: "As a film, it is flimsy, lackluster, showy, blustery, diversionary, and forgettable. (full review)

tl;dr: I admire Deadpool, but not wisely

Christy Lemire praised Robbie's standout performance and the film's feminist themes. She praises the action scenes, but admits that the middle of the film drags and the music cues are a bit on the nose.

Key Quotes "From the lively, vibrantly animated opening, Yang's film is a complete blast. (Full review)
