A year after its unexpected debut, "Apex Legends" has done wonders for the battle royale genre, changing and sustaining the game for months with new characters, collectibles, events, and new maps. Since the main game is based around 20 squads of three players each, the choice of characters tends to be tedious, if not overwhelming. That choice is crucial in setting up the team so that it has the best chance of success against the 57 rivals scattered across the map.

That's why we've put together a guide to help you build the best Apex Legends team comps before you drop headfirst into the map.

Respawn has created such a diverse lineup of characters, each with their own unique and fascinating backstory. But more importantly, it is essential to become familiar with each Legend, as there are currently 12 Legends on the show, one per season.

Take the time to familiarize yourself outside of rank mode to see how they play and what their disparate abilities offer different strategies for different situations. The training mode is there for a reason.

Since every Legend has three unique abilities (Tactical, Passive, Ultimate), it is important to understand the effects of all abilities and how they synergize with each other.

For example, Wraith's portal manipulation "dimensional rift." Combining this technique with Pathfinder's "Insider Knowledge" allows for sneaky access to the next location on the ring or a quick escape by placing a warp hole next to the robot's zip line. Another powerful combination is Lifeline and Kowstik. The possibilities are endless.

Depending on when you are given the choice, there is always the possibility that your top two will be taken by a teammate. In this case, be prepared to choose a legend that will not only play to your strengths, but also to the strengths of your team.

Furthermore, once you have been given your priorities, take a glance at what characters your peers care about. If they are new to the game, give them their preferences, not only to satisfy the user, but also to help the team as a whole. However, if you are confident in your abilities with that character, absolutely choose that character.

Each legend is assigned to one of four classes: offense, recon, defense, and support. Mastering these vastly different types is the key to victory. Ideally, every player would have a separate class, with one designed to be offensive and the other two to complement the offensive players.

Possessing different legend types gives the player the best chance to adapt to the environment and rival squads. See below how each legend is classified:

Offensive Legends: Bangalore, Mirage, Octane, Wraith, Revenant

Recon Legends: Bloodhound, Crypt

Defensive Legends: Coastal, Gibraltar, Watson

Support Legends: Lifeline and Pathfinder

When heading to the map, it is wise to have a rough idea of where you want to land. From there, you can determine which legend is best suited for that environment. If you think Capital City (inside the World's Edge) is the place to aim for, put Watson or Caustic in the lead, who can set traps, while Crypto or Bloodhound scans the area. Alternatively, if you start with a long plain, players who are good at traversal, such as Octane or Pathfinder, will have the advantage.

Every popular game, be it a shooter, battle royale, or fighting game, has a rabid fan base that analyzes every little patch note that is implemented, and Apex Legends is no different. Since the opening season, the community has banded together to rank all the protagonists and provide insight into which characters are actually the best.

Poster Girl Lace has reigned at the top of the list since day one with the smallest hitbox and most resourceful abilities. Carthick, on the other hand, is slow-moving and struggles in open areas, often settling for last place. These tier rankings are always worth looking at if you are serious about competing.
