Epic fail: Google sent a private video of google Photos to a stranger

Yesterday (February 3), someone using Google's "Download your data" service had "one or more videos" sent to "unaffiliated users," Google said in an email message sent to affected users.

Jon Oberheide, CTO of Duo Security, said on Twitter that after using Google's "Download your data" service, he received an email from Google warning that his data may have been compromised. This is an export option offered by Google that allows users to download data stored on Google's servers to their computers.

According to Google, anyone who used this service between November 21, 2019 and November 25, 2019 may have had "one or more" videos sent to other users because the archived files they received contained other users' videos.

This is the full text of the email message:

What Google does not tell us is how many people may have been affected or how many private videos may have been shared with unauthorized people.
