Forget the Galaxy S20: The Galaxy Note20 has an even better display

Editor's Note: The new Galaxy phones are here, check out our hands-on reviews of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 will no doubt be revealed by Samsung at the Unpacked event on February 11. And at least one of the three expected models could rank on our list of best smartphones. But at least a handful of people will look beyond these three models to the successor to the Galaxy Note 10, perhaps called the Note 20.

Believe it or not, there are already interesting rumors about this model.

Ice Universe, a Twitter user with a long track record for accurate leaks, posted the following tweet, and we can't wait for August, when Samsung tends to announce new models in the Galaxy Note series.

A 120Hz refresh rate is becoming the new gold standard for cell phone displays after years of using 60Hz. Twice the refresh rate means twice the smoothness, making scrolling through social media feeds and watching videos more enjoyable.

We tried the 90Hz display on the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T and absolutely loved it; the Asus ROG Phone 2, which has a 120Hz display because it is a phone dedicated to mobile gaming experiences, was also It was fantastic. All three of these models demonstrated the benefits and feasibility of such high refresh rate displays, and we were eagerly awaiting major premium manufacturers like Samsung and Apple to incorporate this technology into their phones.

What exactly "fine-tuning" means is debatable. According to one source, the S20 is capable of a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, but it can only support FHD resolution, not maximum QHD resolution. This means that, in theory, S20 owners will have to choose between smoothness or image quality, rather than getting the best of both worlds at the same time.

Google has its own struggles as well, originally the Pixel 4's 90Hz display could only reach its full potential at high brightness levels. If Samsung can get a 120Hz display on its premium flagship without any restrictions with the Note 20, it may be worth the wait.
