US prices for Galaxy S20 are eye poppingly expensive

Over the past few months, we have excitedly followed the rumors and leaks surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S20, and while the phone appears to be very feature-rich, there were rumors that the price would remain about the same. Now, however, another rumor about the price has surfaced, and it is a much more sobering story.

Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech tweeted three sets of prices for the S20 series, starting with T-Mobile. Needless to say, the prices quoted are quite high.

Shortly thereafter, Prosser posted prices confirmed by AT&T sources, which were $100 less for each model compared to T-Mobile.

Finally, a price from Verizon came up, which unfortunately was the same as the one quoted by T-Mobile.

Incidentally, the Galaxy S10 was priced at $899 at launch, the Galaxy S10 Plus at $999, and the Galaxy S10 5G at $1300. While the price increase is unfortunate, we probably shouldn't be surprised by these numbers. Samsung has added many features to these phones, including 5G versions of all three models.

According to rumors, the Galaxy S20 will have a 6.2-inch panel, the S20 Plus a 6.7-inch panel, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra a massive 6.9-inch panel; the S20 and S20 Plus will feature a 64MP main camera, while the S20 Ultra will have a 108MP camera and reportedly comes with a 10x optical zoom. Max Weinbach, who retweeted these prices and stated that these prices could be correct, had previously leaked the S20 series prices in euros. Converting these prices would result in similar figures to those posted by Prosser, but Weinbach said he expected the US prices to be lower, estimating $850 for the S20, $950 for the S20 Plus, and $1,200 for the S20 Ultra. However, that does not appear to be the case.
