iPhone SE2Plus uses a whole new kind of touch ID (report)

When rumors of a new budget iPhone surfaced, we assumed that the so-called iPhone SE 2 would feature Touch ID, which we remember, rather than Face ID, which is featured on the new iPhone. However, a new report suggests that the SE 2 may offer a new system that Apple has never tried before.

MacRumors (via TechRadar) presented insights from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has an impressive track record when it comes to predicting what Apple is working on next. According to this latest report, Apple plans to bring back Touch ID to the power button instead of the home button for the iPhone SE 2 Plus. according to Kuo, the notch will still be present, but since the Face ID system does not need to be housed within it, it will be Kuo says the notch will still be present, but it will be smaller than what has been seen on previous iPhones because the Face ID system does not need to be housed in it.

The power button will have a capacitive fingerprint scanner and a "new design," though Kuo did not elaborate on that. However, this may mean that the shape and position of the scanner may be new, in order to make the button more ergonomic to use.

This is similar to Samsung's Galaxy S10e and Huawei's Nova 5T. Both of these work well once you get used to the function and position of the buttons, and will likely work well on Apple's new phone as well.

We had already heard rumors that Apple was going to make a new budget iPhone in two sizes. According to this rumor, there will be a 4.7" and a 5.5" (or possibly 6.1") version, with the latter being the "Plus" model that Kuo refers to.

Rumor has it that a new budget iPhone (which might also be called the iPhone 9, depending on who you talk to) will be released in the coming months. If you want to check out iPhone specs and other news before then, you can find everything you need to know on our iPhone SE 2 rumor page.
