Galaxy S20 telephoto camera does not have important features (report)

The 3x 64MP telephoto sensor, one of the cameras rumored to be included in the Galaxy S20 series, has been overshadowed by the 100x "space zoom" sensor that is believed to be included in the S20 Ultra. However, the telephoto sensor is once again the subject of rumors and may have a unique quirk that may divide photography enthusiasts.

Prominent and reliable leaker Ice Universe posted the following tweet, stating that unlike many modern smartphone cameras, the 64MP camera on the standard S20 and S20 Plus cannot be used for smaller resolution shots.

Many cameras use a method called "pixel binning," which combines multiple pixels into one larger pixel. This is useful for capturing more of the available light, which is useful for shooting low-light subjects, and also makes it easier to capture more low-quality images without filling up the phone's storage.

However, this system does not appear to be present in the 64MP cameras that Samsung has included in two of the three models in the S20 series. For those who plan to use the 3x optical zoom telephoto mode, this is because the only way to maximize the optical magnification and enlarge certain parts of the image is to crop the image.

In addition to the 64MP camera (at least according to multiple rumors and leaks), there will be a 12MP main wide sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and only the S20 Plus will have a time-of-flight sensor The S20 Ultra will have a 108MP main sensor and 44MP ultrawide sensor, but the telephoto camera is only 48MP, although it is apparently capable of 10x optical zoom.
