Google Pixel4a is basically just confirmed

Last year, Google put a new twist on its excellent Pixel 3, releasing the truncated but much more affordable Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL After the Pixel 4 breaks ground in October 2019, we've been expecting the Pixel 4a to arrive sooner rather than later, and now Google has almost confirmed it with a new software update.

XDA Developers has been scouring the latest updates to Google's camera app, and while digging through the APKs we found some interesting references to Google's future plans.

As for the app itself, it appears that a 24 fps video mode will be supported in the future, in addition to the existing 30 fps and 60 fps standards. This feature is no doubt very exciting for smartphone videographers. Film cameras traditionally record video at the same speed, allowing them to capture more cinematic footage using a lower frame rate.

Also, a new setting has been added to the camera app to temporarily use Do Not Disturb when recording video. Enabling this will allow users to record extended video without having to worry about their phone vibrating due to an unexpected call or notification.

More exciting information for many of us, however, is the mention of the codenames "sunfish" and "bramble," which have long been thought to refer to the successor to the Pixel 3a series. This certainty seems to be confirmed by the presence of the words "pixel_20_mid_range" nearby, which seems to refer quite clearly to a Pixel similar to the 3a to be released in 2020.

There are not many other rumors about the Pixel 4a. We can probably expect another May release date and another pair of phones priced around the $400 mark.

The only major leak comes from 91mobiles and Twitter leaker OnLeaks, dating back to December 2019. It claims that the 4a will have only one rear camera instead of the Pixel 4's dual array, but will have a headphone jack, a punch-hole selfie camera, and a rear fingerprint scanner to replace the Motion Sense facial recognition system from the original Pixel 4.
