JBL'sノ129 noise cancelling headphones are the cheap Bose alternative you are looking for

Bose noise-canceling headphones are among the best wireless headphones available, but they are expensive. JBL's Tune 750BTNC, announced today, offers an inexpensive alternative with bass and active noise cancellation.

Priced at $129, they are considerably cheaper than our favorite noise-canceling headphones, the $399 Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700. But JBL's new pair doesn't skimp on features: in addition to ANC, they claim to pack powerful bass and 15 hours of battery life.

The JBL 750TNC's 40mm drivers provide deep sound while active noise cancellation drowns out ambient noise; the JBL 750TNC does not appear to support as many ANC levels as the Bose 700, which is one of the reasons Bose justifies the premium price.

The JBL 750TNC offers hands-free access to voice assistants such as Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri. It can also switch between Bluetooth sources with a multipoint connection.

However, the Tune 750BTC only supports Bluetooth 4.2 and does not support the Bluetooth 5.0 standard that is becoming more common with newer wireless headphones. Bluetooth 5.0 offers faster transfer rates, longer pairing distances, and lower battery consumption.

JBL's use of Bluetooth 4.2 may explain the 750TNC's very average playback time of 15 hours with noise cancellation turned on (22 hours with ANC turned off). By comparison, the Bose 700 should last 20 hours with ANC on.

As for design, the Tune 750BTC keeps pace with JBL's fun, playful aesthetic. It is available in black, white, red, and blue.

Whether JBL's inexpensive ANC headphones will be worth it remains to be seen; we won't know until we test the Tune 750BTC.
