Good news for longtime Fortnite fans with real-life friends: split-screen play is now available on PS4 and Xbox One.

It's natural to want to play with friends, and split-screen games were all the rage in the dark days before the Internet. With a little help, you can coordinate your attacks with a friend sitting right next to you.

To use Fortnite's split-screen mode, you need three things. First, it's only available on Xbox One and PS4 for now; Switch and PC players will apparently be able to use this feature in a future update. Assuming you have the right console for this game, you'll need a second controller. You would also need another person; it is possible to control two players at the same time, but probably not worth the hassle.

Once everything checks out, you need to be in either a duo or a squad to use the split screen. You cannot do this solo as it would be an unfair advantage. Once in the appropriate mode, make sure the second controller is connected and simply press and hold the X button on the PS4 or the A button on the Xbox One to join the game. Now you should both be in the lobby, ready to wait for the onslaught of other players.

This is a fairly unique way to play Fortnite, and while it doesn't work everywhere, it is great fun if you like to call your friends.
