The price of the Galaxy S20 just leaked, and they are expensive

Samsung's Galaxy S20 series is going to be a great phone, according to rumors. However, these improved new features are likely to come at a literal price. The recently leaked cost of each version of the S20 confirms our worst fears.

We were able to obtain euro-denominated prices for the three main versions from Max Weinbach, a writer and leaker at XDA Developers (via TechRadar).

The original tweet can be seen below:

Converting these prices to USD and GBP, the S20 is $1,110/£850, the S20 Plus is $1,221/£935, and the S20 Ultra is $1,443/£1105.

In a later tweet, Weinbach speculated that the prices in dollars would actually be lower, with the three models going for $850, $950, and $1,200 respectively. He noted, however, that the initial prices may be more accurate because even the basic versions have higher specs.

He said in the same tweet that these prices will be about 100 euros cheaper for each 4G version.

At launch, the S10 series started at $899 for the standard Galaxy S10, $999 for the S10 Plus, and finally $1,300 for the S10 5G. While the prices indicated in the tweets are a bit higher than comparable models, Weinbach's personal estimate is that the S20 series is less expensive than the S10 series.

Given that Apple lowered the price when upgrading the iPhone XR to the iPhone 11, it is not surprising that Samsung would also try to keep the price down for its customers.

Meanwhile, there is currently no S20 equivalent to the $749 S10e. However, Samsung's recent announcement of the Galaxy S10 Lite perhaps hints at a subsequent generation S20 model more suited to lower budgets.

In the same thread, Weinbach mentioned that the S20 Ultra's 100x zoom capability will be more specifically a 30x lossless hybrid zoom and a 100x maximum digital zoom, and that this range-topping edition of the S20 is black, blue, gray, He also details that it will be available in four colors: black, blue, gray, and pink.

He also mentions the price of Samsung's second foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip. The rumored €1400 ($1554 / £1190) is much cheaper than the original Galaxy Fold and only slightly more than the $1500 Motorola Razr foldable.

If these prices are accurate, the flexible phone market may finally have a suitable competitor. Weinbach states that this price will likely change before launch, but does not reveal whether he thinks it will go up or down.
