Massive Galaxy S20 Leak Reveals New Camera Features and Up to 16GB of RAM

After obtaining what is believed to be the first real look at the Galaxy S20, a series of massive leaks have revealed the internal specs of the new flagship. The leaks include rumors about the battery, display, and memory, as well as much information about the phone's camera.

First up is the camera, thanks to a leak from an unknown source who owns an S20 (via XDA Developers), we have detailed specs for the new S20 and S20 Plus versions.

The basic sensors include a 12MP main camera, a 64MP secondary camera, and a third sensor of unknown resolution (although we know it is a Samsung ISOCell S5K2LA sensor). There is also a fourth unknown sensor on the front and a 10MP selfie camera. One of these unknown sensors has a hybrid up to 30x optical 3x zoom lens.

As can be seen from recent photos, the camera bump on the back of the S20 has six slots: in addition to the four cameras, there is a flash module (same as on the S10 and Note 10) in the upper right and a hole for a microphone in the lower right.

A new software feature was also spotted: Smart Selfie Angle. This automatically changes the front camera image from a standard angle shot to a wide angle shot when the phone detects multiple people in the image. Since there is only one camera on the front, one can assume that Samsung is using software magic to change the lens of the regular 10MP selfie camera and crop the image when necessary to make it look like a regular angle lens.

Various other features identified by XDA Developers sources are a maximum video quality of 8K@30FPS and a Single Take photo mode of video evidence. This mode allows you to pan around while the phone records video and simultaneously takes a still image that seems best for you, before reviewing the images in the gallery. This apparently works for selfies as well.

The returning Pro Video mode, which allows users to control additional settings, has been missing from Samsung phones since the Galaxy S9 and is confirmed to be present. However, Director's View, a rumored feature that records scenes and swaps footage with all available cameras, is not. Since this feature appears in the code of the camera app, it is unlikely that Samsung has cancelled this feature, and it is possible that it will appear after the phone's launch in February.

This is not the only leak that has happened recently; Ice Universe recently claimed on Twitter that the S20 will not have a full (WQHD) 120Hz display at 120Hz. Therefore, they claim that the S20 can use the display at 60HZ or 120Hz at lower FHD resolutions or at 60Hz at full WQHD resolution.

This is unfortunate--the WQHD 120Hz panel will almost certainly lead its class, but it could quickly be overtaken by Samsung's other choices. For example, OnePlus will soon reveal details about its own 120Hz panel, and given that the existing OnePlus 7 Pro has a QHD 90Hz display, it is unlikely to take a step back in resolution.

Additionally, Max Weinbach of XDA Developers has leaked the memory specs for the S20 Ultra, the top-of-the-line version of the S20 series. He claims that it will add 12GB or 16GB of RAM, 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage, and up to 1TB of SD card storage options.

As for the camera, he reiterates the rumor that it will feature a 108MP main sensor, a 48MP 10x optical sensor, and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. Finally, he again corroborated old leaked information that the S20 Ultra will have a 5000mAh battery and support a 45W fast charge, achieving 0 to 100% charge in 74 minutes. These specs are corroborated by MySmartPrice, which is working with another prominent leaker, Ishan Agarwal.

While the news about the display is disappointing, these leaks suggest that the S20 is going to be one of Samsung's best phones and a big leap forward from the already excellent S10 series.

Our Galaxy S20 rumors page will be updated regularly with new information until the S20 is announced on February 11.
