Is the Smart Battery Case you purchased last year no longer quite so sleek? You may be able to get a new iPhone accessory with the Smart Battery Case replacement program that Apple launched yesterday (January 10).

According to a support document posted by Apple, some Smart Battery cases may be experiencing charging issues. The affected models work with Apple's 2018 iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max models, and Apple's replacement program covers Smart Battery cases released between January 2019 and October 2019.

Some cases released during that time period do not charge the iPhone or charge intermittently. That unstable charging also occurs when the case is connected to a power source, Apple said.

Owners of Smart Battery Cases for iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max may be eligible for a free replacement; bring the case to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple retail store to see if it is eligible.

Apple states that the charging issue is not a safety threat and only the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max versions of the Smart Battery Case are affected. If you have further questions, please contact Apple Support.
