AMD's 3rd generation Ryzen4000 could be the best laptop CPU ever

AMD kicked off CES 2020 with a bang, unveiling its third-generation Ryzen 4000 series.

AMD calls the 3rd generation Ryzen 4000 "the best laptop processor ever made," and it's easy to see why. It is the first 7-nanometer x86 mobile processor, and with 8 cores and 16 threads, it has an enormous amount of computing power that can be packed into the slimmest, lightest laptops.

If AMD's benchmarks are to be believed, the latest Ryzen chips could pose a serious threat to Intel: the Ryzen 7 4800U (the top processor in the lineup) has 4% single-threaded performance compared to the latest 10th generation Intel Core i7 process, 90% improvement in multi-threaded performance, and 28% improvement in graphics performance. [The 3rd generation Ryzen 4000 series will be available in the U-series (ultra-thin consumer notebooks), H-series (gaming notebooks), and RPO series (ultra-thin professional notebooks) AMD will be offering the newly announced Yoga Slim 7 (the world's thinnest and lightest 8-core notebook), and said it expects the third-generation Ryzen 4000 chip to be in more than 100 top-of-the-line notebooks by the end of 2020.

AMD's new 3rd generation Ryzen 4000 series could lead to some of the most powerful, slimmer and lighter laptops ever, and we look forward to getting our hands on the latest 3rd generation systems as they are released throughout the year.
