iPhone12 can be thin and will appear all the time

With many upgrades expected, the iPhone 12 series could feature the thinnest and most power-efficient display to date. According to a new report by Korean news media outlet The Elec, LG will be the exclusive supplier of its new Gen-6 OLED panels for the upcoming new Apple models.

So what is so important about these new displays? They use the same LTPO backplane technology seen in recent Apple Watch models, allowing for low-energy OLED displays that are relatively easy to manufacture; as TechRadar speculates, this makes certain iPhone 12 models, may even be able to feature an always-on display while maintaining solid battery life, as seen with the Apple Watch 5.

Elec's report does not say whether the new Gen-6 display will be included in this year's iPhone 12 series or if it will have to wait until 2021.

Previous iPhone 12 display rumors have indicated that Apple's new iPhones could have 120 Hz displays, which would also exceed the refresh rates of the OnePlus 7 Pro and Pixel 4. According to recent rumors, as many as five new iPhones could be introduced this year, four of which are expected to feature OLED displays and a budget option with an LCD screen (which could be the rumored iPhone SE 2).

More rumors are expected to surface before the iPhone 12, which is expected to be announced in September 2020.
